Erdoğan Calls for End to Israeli Occupation, ASEAN Pledges Support for Gaza Reconstruction

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has urged Israel to end its occupation of Palestinian territories and provide compensation for the damages inflicted in Gaza.

Iran (IMNA) - Speaking at a joint press conference with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Erdoğan emphasized the necessity of establishing an independent, sovereign State of Palestine, based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Erdoğan expressed confidence that ASEAN members could collectively manage aid to Gaza if they unite. Anwar Ibrahim praised Türkiye's leadership in providing humanitarian aid to Gaza, stating that no other country has done as much. He affirmed that Malaysia, as the current ASEAN chair, would mobilize the association for the reconstruction of Gaza.

Anwar Ibrahim criticized Israel's ongoing "aggressive and expansionist" policies and questioned the prospects for progress towards a ceasefire, given Israel's continued presence in the Palestinian enclave[2].

Additionally, Erdoğan announced plans to increase the bilateral trade volume between Türkiye and Malaysia from $5 billion to $10 billion.
