Araghchi Affirms Iran's Stance: No Negotiations Under Pressure

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has reiterated that Iran will not engage in negotiations under pressure, emphasizing the necessity of fair and respectful dialogue.

Iran (IMNA) - Araghchi warned against trusting the United States, citing its past non-compliance with the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) as a lesson.

Addressing an audience in Tehran, Araghchi highlighted the detrimental impact of sanctions on Iran's economic progress, describing them as "unjust" and a "major obstacle". He outlined a dual approach to addressing the sanctions: seeking their removal through negotiation and international engagement, and mitigating their effects through domestic self-reliance, which he prioritized.

Araghchi asserted that neutralizing the impact of sanctions is a national duty and that Iran must defy the expectations of those imposing sanctions. He stated clearly that while Iran is open to negotiations, it will not do so under duress or policies of "maximum pressure".

"Negotiations from a position of weakness are not real negotiations—they are surrender. We will never negotiate in such conditions,” he stated.

Araghchi affirmed Iran's commitment to negotiations, but he also noted that the JCPOA experience has demonstrated the unreliability of the U.S. He added that Iran will not negotiate with a country that imposes new sanctions while simultaneously seeking dialogue.
