Iran's Foreign Minister Declares U.S. Maximum Pressure Policy to Fail Again

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has firmly stated that the United States' renewed deployment of the "maximum pressure" policy against Iran is destined for failure.

Iran (IMNA) - Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, he emphasized, "The policy of maximum pressure has already proven to be a failure, and any attempt to revive it will only lead to another defeat".

Araghchi's comments reference the U.S. approach during Donald Trump's presidency, which included withdrawing from the 2015 nuclear deal and reinstating sanctions that had previously been lifted, along with imposing additional unilateral restrictions on Iran. In response, Iran has taken legitimate nuclear steps, including operationalizing advanced centrifuges, and has sought ways to bypass sanctions while enhancing its economy through foreign trade and domestic production. This strategy has resulted in what Araghchi describes as Washington suffering a "maximum defeat" due to its failed policy.

On Tuesday, Trump announced new "tough" measures aimed at preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons, signing a presidential memorandum that authorizes stricter actions against the Islamic Republic. He asserted, "They can’t have a nuclear weapon; we’d be very tough if they insist on doing that".

Despite these threats, Iran maintains that its nuclear activities comply with international regulations and have been consistently verified by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Araghchi responded to Trump's remarks by stating that if the primary concern is preventing Iran from pursuing nuclear weapons, achieving this goal is feasible. He reiterated Iran's commitment as a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and highlighted a religious decree from Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei that prohibits the pursuit of such weapons.

In a related statement on Wednesday, Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), reiterated that "Iran has never had, does not have, and will not have a nuclear weapons program," emphasizing that Iran's peaceful nuclear program operates within the framework of international agreements.
