Iran - (IMNA) - Speaking at the closing ceremony of a local photo and short film festival, Hassanpour pointed to ancient rock engravings in the Humian area, which depict a deer in five distinct poses, forming an early type of animation.
Hassanpour stated that this rock art, dating back thousands of years, represents humanity's earliest recorded concept of animation. He remarked, “The rock art illustrates the deer’s movement across five distinct poses, making it the oldest animation in the world, encapsulating the first form of film, photography, and early human thought.”
While some contend that a similar pottery artifact from Shahr-e Sukhteh, a UNESCO site in southeastern Iran, holds this title, Hassanpour argues that Lorestan's artwork predates it. He emphasized that historical context supports Lorestan's claim as the origin of the world's first animation.
Further discussing Lorestan's rich heritage, Hassanpour highlighted ancient rock carvings and petroglyphs found on Suren mountain and other locations across the province. These markings were first uncovered in 1969 by British-American archaeologist Charles Brian Montagu McBurney and Iranian researcher Hamid Izadpanah, contributing to Lorestan's global historical recognition.
In his address, Hassanpour underscored the significance of tourism development in the region, stressing that attracting investors is vital for Lorestan's pursuit of global heritage recognition. “The tourism sector is essential to the province’s future, and we urgently need investors to support this effort,” he stated.
The festival aimed to promote Lorestan’s lesser-known attractions and is viewed as a step toward enhancing its visibility as a tourist destination. “There is much work behind every photo and film, and such festivals play a crucial role in showcasing the untold stories of Lorestan,” Hassanpour added.
He concluded by expressing pride in the province's deep cultural roots and hoped for the future inclusion of the Khorramabad Valley in the UNESCO World Heritage list through collaborative efforts. Lorestan has a rich history dating back to Iranian Indo-European peoples around 1000 BC and has been influenced by various civilizations over centuries.
