Iran (IMNA) - The meeting was convened at Al Nahyan's invitation as Araghchi returned from his inaugural visit to China since assuming his role as Iran's foreign minister.
The two ministers exchanged views on enhancing bilateral relations across various sectors and addressed significant regional issues. In a prior phone conversation on December 12, they had discussed the situation in Syria following the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad, emphasizing the need to uphold Syria's national sovereignty and territorial integrity while condemning Israeli aggression.
During his visit to Beijing, Araghchi also met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, where they deliberated on security and political developments in West Asia, agreeing that the region should not be a battleground for external powers' geopolitical ambitions. Additionally, he engaged with Nurlan Yermekbayev, the new Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
In related news, Oman's Foreign Minister Said Badr al-Busaidi is set to visit Tehran on Monday at the invitation of Iran's foreign minister. This visit aims to discuss mutual relations and ongoing regional developments. Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated that al-Busaidi would also meet with senior Iranian political and economic officials. Iran’s Ambassador to Muscat, Mousa Farhang, remarked that this trip would herald a new phase in Iran-Oman relations based on trust and honesty.
