Azerbaijan's President Thanks Iran for Support in D-8 Membership

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has expressed his gratitude to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in a letter following Azerbaijan's unanimous election as a member of the Developing Eight Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8) during the 11th D-8 Summit held on December 19, 2024, in Cairo, Egypt.

Iran (IMNA) - Aliyev's letter highlighted Iran's support, stating, “I extend my profound gratitude to the Islamic Republic of Iran and to you personally for the unanimous election of the Republic of Azerbaijan as a member of the D-8”[5].

The D-8 organization, which has been active for nearly thirty years, made a historic decision regarding expansion for the first time at this summit. Aliyev noted that this decision reflects international trust in Azerbaijan and serves as a source of pride for the nation. He emphasized that the support received for Azerbaijan's candidacy underscores the strong friendship and cooperative relations shared with each member country of the organization[5][1].

In his message, Aliyev expressed confidence that Azerbaijan would contribute to safeguarding the fundamental principles of the D-8 and deepen cooperation among member countries. Aliyev concluded his letter by wishing Pezeshkian good health and success in his endeavors while expressing hopes for continued cooperation based on mutual respect and good neighborliness between Azerbaijan and Iran[5].
