Iran (IMNA) - According to Press TV, Akbari stated, “We plan to restart operations at the embassy immediately. Additionally, they have assured us of their readiness and guaranteed the safety of the embassy”.
To ensure security, embassy staff were temporarily relocated to Beirut for two to three days. Akbari expressed optimism about resuming activities soon, saying, “God willing, the embassy will resume its activities soon”. He noted that prior to the arrival of Hayʼat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in Damascus, unknown individuals had looted the embassy, but confirmed that “we did not have a single dollar in the embassy and none of the Iranians were harmed”.
In his remarks, Akbari condemned Israel's actions in Syria, asserting that “Israel has considered the fall of Bashar al-Assad a major victory for itself.” He highlighted recent Israeli military operations, stating that the regime bombed 400 sites in Syria within 72 hours, destroying approximately 90% of Syria's defense capabilities. He added that Israel has conducted over 60 new strikes on Syria recently, bringing the total number of attacks in a week to about 800.
The focus of these airstrikes has been on Damascus and its outskirts, targeting ammunition depots and air defense systems. Akbari emphasized that “the most important influential variable in this scene is the role of the Zionist regime,” which he claimed does not want a powerful government in Syria that could pose a threat to its interests.
The situation escalated when foreign-backed militants led by HTS took control of Damascus on December 8, declaring an end to President Assad’s rule following a rapid offensive from their stronghold in northwestern Syria. Since 2011, Syria has faced ongoing militancy as various armed groups have attempted to overthrow the government, while Iran and Russia continue to support legitimate Assad's government against these threats.
