Iranian Foreign Minister Addresses Syria's Challenges and Calls for Political Solutions

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has highlighted the complex challenges facing Syria and the broader region, emphasizing the resilience of the Syrian people and the need for political solutions grounded in inclusivity.

Iran (IMNA) - In an article published by Al-Akhbar newspaper on Saturday, Araghchi commended the historical resistance of the Syrian populace, recalling their courage during the October 1973 war and unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, despite efforts to isolate Syria from the Axis of Resistance.

Araghchi pointed out the current threats posed by terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda and Daesh, warning that these organizations could turn Syria into a sanctuary for terrorists. He condemned acts of aggression by Israel, the United States, and their regional allies, characterizing their actions as “strategic miscalculations” that undermine Syria’s social fabric, scientific resources, economic infrastructure, and defensive capabilities.

Despite these adversities, Araghchi praised the spirit of resistance shown by the people of Gaza’s Jabalia camp, who endured relentless military assaults for two months. He drew parallels to Syria, asserting that a similar resilience exists among its people.

Looking to the future, he stressed the importance of unity and coexistence among Syrians as a foundation for a political solution. He advocated for free elections that would allow all Syrians to determine their nation's future, aligning this approach with UN Security Council Resolution 2254. Araghchi reaffirmed Tehran’s commitment to preserving Syria’s sovereignty and supporting a political process that reflects the will of its people, underscoring that stability in Syria is crucial for the region's future.
