Iran (IMNA) - Lavrov's comments come in response to statements from Admiral Rob Bauer, the chairman of NATO's military committee, who suggested that the alliance should prepare for precision strikes deep into Russia if a conflict arises. During a recent conference at the European Policy Center in Brussels, Bauer indicated that NATO's strategy may need to evolve from a purely defensive posture to one that includes preemptive actions against perceived threats.
He stated, "The idea was we are a defensive alliance, so we will only sit and wait until we are attacked… but it would be smarter to attack the archer, that is Russia—if Russia attacks us." Lavrov countered these assertions by emphasizing that many high-ranking NATO officials lack real combat experience and are merely seeking to appease their superiors. He remarked, "They have thrown away all decency… all standards of decency have been disregarded," asserting that NATO has revealed its true intentions through such discussions.
This exchange highlights the escalating tensions between Moscow and NATO amid ongoing conflicts involving Ukraine. As relations deteriorate, Lavrov's condemnation reflects a broader concern within Russia regarding NATO's military posturing and its implications for regional security.
