Russia and Iran Forge Comprehensive Partnership Agreement to Enhance Defense and Security Cooperation

The agreement on a comprehensive partnership between Russia and Iran is set to encompass the defense and security sectors, according to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko.

Iran (IMNA) - In an interview with TASS, Rudenko emphasized that while he would not disclose specific details of the agreement, it is designed to address contemporary challenges and will cover nearly all areas of Russian-Iranian cooperation, including defense and security.

Rudenko noted that the new document differs significantly from a similar agreement signed in 2001, which contained more concise provisions. He highlighted that the nature of interaction between the two nations has evolved dramatically over the past two decades, resulting in a markedly different dynamic and quality of cooperation.

"The regional situation has not become simpler," Rudenko stated, adding that Russia is closely coordinating its approaches with Iran to bolster peace and security in the region[6][9]. The upcoming agreement is expected to be a pivotal moment in the development of bilateral relations, addressing various sectors such as energy, industry, transport, and agriculture alongside defense.
