Iran (IMNA) - In a statement posted on his X account on Saturday, Jalali expressed that “any kind of misbehavior with Iranian students is condemned and the responsible Russian authorities should be held accountable”.
The ambassador confirmed that the issue is being taken seriously and noted that positive outcomes have already been achieved. He mentioned that authorities were surprised by the incident and assured that an investigation would be initiated to hold those responsible for the mistreatment accountable.
Jalali also highlighted that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is actively pursuing the matter. He cited the Iranian consul general in Kazan, stating that two Iranian students detained during the incident have been released and are in good physical condition, with only minor injuries reported.
The incident reportedly occurred when a group of international students, including those from Iran, Uzbekistan, China, and Turkmenistan, visited the Visa Extension Department at Kazan Federal University to renew their visas. An argument among some students escalated, leading to police intervention, during which Iranian students were reportedly beaten and two were arrested.
