Alisjahbana expressed ESCAP's readiness to work closely with Iran, particularly in combating sand and dust storms, while emphasizing the importance of sharing expertise. She praised Iranian girls and young women's enthusiasm for science and technology, advocating for increased international cooperation to transfer Iran’s experiences to other nations.
Behrouz-Azar highlighted the detrimental effects of unilateral sanctions and environmental issues on women and children's quality of life. She noted that the gender gap in education in Iran has narrowed to just three percent. Both officials expressed optimism about jointly developing projects aimed at enhancing women's resilience against crises.
During her address at the conference, Behrouz-Azar reaffirmed the Iranian administration's commitment to empowering women socially and economically. She noted that initiatives are underway to improve women's access to social services through national programs. Emphasizing Iran's achievements in various fields, she called attention to the government's focus on supporting women entrepreneurs despite ongoing sanctions.
The Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference gathered a diverse group of stakeholders from across the region to evaluate progress on the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action over the past five years, aiming to strategize actions necessary for achieving gender equality and women's empowerment as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
