Iran Condemns New European Sanctions, Warns Against IAEA Resolution

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has strongly criticized the newly imposed sanctions by European nations on the country's airlines and shipping sectors, labeling them as "unjustified and provocative."

Iran (IMNA) - During a phone call with French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot, Araghchi emphasized that any anti-Iranian actions at the upcoming International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors meeting would further complicate the situation regarding Iran's peaceful nuclear program.

The sanctions, which target Iranian state-operated shipping firms and airlines, were enacted in response to allegations that Iran supplied military equipment to Russia for use in the Ukraine conflict. Araghchi condemned these claims as baseless, stating that they undermine the positive diplomatic atmosphere between Iran and the IAEA. He expressed concern over the decision by Germany, France, and the UK to propose an anti-Iran resolution at the IAEA meeting, asserting that such measures contradict recent constructive engagements.

In light of ongoing regional tensions, particularly regarding Israel regime's actions in Lebanon and Gaza, Araghchi called for urgent intervention from influential parties to halt Israeli aggression. The conversation comes amid reports that the UK, France, and Germany are preparing a resolution criticizing Iran for its alleged lack of cooperation with the IAEA.

A senior Western diplomat indicated that if a resolution is passed, it could jeopardize Iran's commitments made during recent IAEA discussions. The IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi visited Tehran last week to negotiate with Iranian officials about their nuclear program.
