Iran and Tajikistan Seek to Strengthen Rail Transport Cooperation

The chief executive of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (RAI), Jabbar Ali Zakeri, emphasized the importance of enhancing transport and transit cooperation between Iran and Tajikistan during the 81st meeting of the Council for Rail Transport of the Commonwealth Independent States (CIS) held in Tashkent on November 5-6, 2024. Zakeri highlighted that increased collaboration is essential for both nations.

Iran (IMNA) - In a meeting with Komil Jumahon Mirzoali, CEO of the Tajikistan Railway Company, Zakeri reiterated the need for expert-level discussions between senior railway officials from both countries to address existing challenges. Mirzoali underscored the necessity of boosting rail transport cooperation, particularly regarding the transit of cargo, and called for bilateral meetings to resolve ongoing issues.

Additionally, Mirzoali proposed reducing tariffs on rail transport, especially for oil exports from Iran to Tajikistan. He also mentioned the presence of several GE locomotives in Tajikistan's railway system and expressed the need for Iran's technical assistance in their repair.
