EU Foreign Policy Chief Proposes Measures Against Israeli Actions in Gaza and Lebanon

Josep Borrell, the European Union's foreign policy chief, has put forward a series of proposals aimed at addressing alleged Israeli war crimes in Gaza and Lebanon.

Iran (IMNA) - Borrell criticized the EU's previous approach towards Israel, emphasizing that the bloc has not imposed any significant consequences on the Israeli regime for its actions to date.

In response to violations of international law, Borrell suggested measures including a ban on imports from Israel and a suspension of political dialogue with the Israeli government. He stated that the EU's current strategy must evolve, asserting that **even-handedness** is crucial for maintaining the bloc's credibility in international affairs.

Borrell condemned attacks on healthcare workers and facilities as serious breaches of international humanitarian law, underscoring that protecting medical personnel in conflict zones is non-negotiable. He expressed strong condemnation for the killing of 12 paramedics in an Israeli strike near Baalbek.

The EU's Foreign Affairs Council is scheduled to discuss Borrell's proposals next week. This comes in the wake of Israel's military offensive on Gaza, launched on October 7, 2023, which was triggered by Hamas' surprise attacks. The ongoing conflict has resulted in over 43,730 Palestinian deaths, predominantly among women and children, with more than 103,000 injured and thousands missing under rubble
