Iran (IMNA) - In a post on X, Araghchi stated that the initial "Maximum Pressure" strategy was met with "Maximum Resistance" from Iran, leading to what he termed Washington's "Maximum Defeat." He cautioned that any attempt at a "Maximum Pressure 2.0" would similarly result in a "Maximum Defeat 2.0." Instead, he advocated for a strategy of "Maximum Wisdom," which he believes would be beneficial for all parties involved.
Highlighting Iran's progress in its peaceful nuclear program since the U.S. unilaterally imposed sanctions in 2018, Araghchi criticized the ongoing sanctions that have severely impacted the Iranian population. The U.S. sanctions, initially implemented under former President Donald Trump after withdrawing from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), have continued under President Joe Biden, restricting essential financial channels for purchasing basic goods and medicine.
This warning comes amid reports that President-elect Donald Trump is contemplating further sanctions against Iran upon taking office in January. The previous administration's maximum pressure campaign targeted Iran with what were described as the toughest sanctions ever, but failed to achieve its intended goals while causing significant hardship to the Iranian people.
