Iran (IMNA) - Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, addressing the joint meeting of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Monday, condemned what he described as a "massacre" against the Palestinian and Lebanese populations.
Bin Salman urged Israel to "refrain from any further act of aggression," emphasizing the urgent need for global recognition of Palestinian statehood. He stated, "The actions taken by Israel against the Palestinian people are undermining efforts to achieve lasting peace. It is only with justice that we will be able to establish lasting peace".
Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, echoed these sentiments, lamenting the severe hardships faced by Palestinians. He remarked, "Words cannot express the plight of the Palestinian people," highlighting the necessity for justice as a foundation for peace.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called on Arab and Islamic nations to stand in solidarity with Palestine and demanded the implementation of a UN resolution aimed at halting Israeli aggression and facilitating humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza. King Abdullah II of Jordan also condemned Israel's actions, urging for increased aid to the besieged territory.
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati warned that Lebanon is experiencing an "unprecedented historical crisis," citing World Bank estimates that Israeli aggression has caused approximately $8.5 billion in damages.
The summit saw participation from over 50 leaders from Arab and Islamic countries. Ahead of this meeting, Hamas called for an alliance among these nations to pressure Israel and its allies to end hostilities in Gaza and Lebanon.
While Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was absent due to urgent matters, he communicated with Bin Salman, confirming that Iran's First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref would attend.
This summit follows a similar gathering one year prior, where leaders condemned Israeli actions in Gaza as "barbaric." The Saudi Press Agency noted that escalating violence has compelled leaders to take urgent action, focusing on halting aggression, protecting civilians, and unifying positions to pressure the international community for decisive steps towards peace.
