Iran Dominates at 2024 U23 Greco-Roman World Championships

The Iranian Greco-Roman wrestling team clinched the title at the 2024 U23 World Championships held in Tirana, Albania, on Wednesday night.

Iran (IMNA) - Iran topped the standings with an impressive total of 149 points, outpacing Georgia, which finished second with 121 points, and Armenia, which secured third place with 93 points.

Iran's remarkable performance included winning three gold medals and four bronze medals. Notable victories included Mohammad Naghousi, who triumphed over American wrestler Beka Melelashvili in the 82kg final, winning with a score of 4-3. In the 55kg final, Ali Ahmadi Vafa defeated European silver medalist Rashad Mamadov from Azerbaijan decisively, finishing at 11-3.

Fardin Hedayati also showcased his skill by winning the U-23 world title in the 130kg category, dominating his match against Dmitrii Baboryko (AIN) with a score of 6-0. Additional wins for Iran included Danial Sohrabi's victory over Swede Georgios Barbanos (9-0) in the 72kg division, and Shayan Habibzare's win against Richard Karelson from Estonia (8-5) in the 97kg category.

Erfan Jarkani contributed to Iran's medal tally by defeating Arman Vardanyan from Armenia (8-0) in the 63kg class, while Ali Oskou secured another bronze by overcoming Doniyorkhon Nakibov from Uzbekistan with a score of 6-4 in the 77kg event.
