Iran (IMNA) - Speaking at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) summit in Geneva on Monday, Ghalibaf asserted that the Israeli regime believed it could dismantle the Resistance in Lebanon following the assassination of former Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. However, he emphasized that recent defeats on the battlefield and Hezbollah's drone attacks on Israeli forces demonstrate that the group remains resilient and is strongly supported by the Lebanese populace.
Ghalibaf criticized the summit's focus on using science and innovation for a sustainable future, arguing that science has instead been weaponized for war and state terrorism by Israel. He recounted his recent visit to Beirut, highlighting the devastation caused by bombings that have killed civilians and displaced over a million people. "I am the voice of the oppressed people of Lebanon," he stated, underscoring their ongoing struggle against American airstrikes.
He reiterated Iran's support for any ceasefire agreed upon by the Lebanese government and Hezbollah, condemning Israel for its actions that have resulted in significant civilian casualties. Ghalibaf described Israel as a regime that disregards legal and moral standards, stating, "We are facing a criminal regime that does not shy away from burning civilians alive in refugee camps."
He warned that if current conditions persist, the world could face a profound crisis, with Israel's continued aggression potentially igniting further military conflicts in the region. "We will fulfill our historical duty and we are waiting to see what the world will do to defend human rights," he concluded.
