China and Iran Discuss Regional Tensions Amid West Asian Escalation

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi engaged in a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Monday, focusing on the escalating tensions in the West Asian region.

Iran (IMNA) - During the call, both ministers exchanged views on their bilateral relations and the current developments affecting the area.

Wang highlighted the strategic importance of China's relationship with Iran, stressing the necessity for enhanced diplomatic efforts to mitigate rising tensions and insecurity in West Asia. He called for initiatives involving various regional and international parties to address these challenges.

In response, Araghchi commended China's efforts to curb what he described as the warmongering actions of the Israeli regime in Gaza and Lebanon. He criticized the United Nations Security Council's inaction, attributing it to U.S. support for Israel, which he labeled as "disastrous." Araghchi expressed appreciation for China's role in promoting peace and security in the region.

The two foreign ministers also discussed plans for a meeting between their respective presidents on the sidelines of the upcoming BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia.
