Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi Engages in Talks During UN General Assembly Visit

During his first day in the United States, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with various state officials as part of his visit coinciding with the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Iran (IMNA) - The UNGA 79 opened on September 10, 2024, with the high-level General Debate set to commence on September 24, 2024.

On Saturday evening local time, Araghchi held discussions with Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali al-Yahya, where they addressed a range of issues related to bilateral relations and regional developments.

Additionally, Araghchi met with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla during the session. In this meeting, he condemned the U.S. Congress for including Cuba on its list of states supporting terrorism, labeling it as part of Washington’s ongoing hostile policies. Parrilla expressed Cuba's satisfaction with the strong bilateral relations in economic, academic, and scientific fields, stating, “We support the Islamic Republic of Iran against the hostile policies of the United States.”

Araghchi also engaged in conversations with Sigrid Kaag, the Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza. Their discussions focused on regional issues, particularly the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the United Nations' efforts to assist those affected.

Furthermore, he met with Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), to discuss various matters concerning the ICRC’s mission in West Asia and its initiatives to aid Palestinians in Gaza.
