Iran (IMNA) - Imam Reza, also known as Ali ibn Musa al-Rida, was a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and was born in Medina, present-day Saudi Arabia, on Zul-Qa'dah 11 in the year 148 AH.
He was the son of Imam Musa al-Kazem and Hazrat Najma. His era of Imamat began in 183 AH when he was thirty-five, lasting nearly 20 years, during which he lived in Medina for 17 years and spent the last three years in Khorasan, Iran.
Imam Reza holds a revered status among Iranians, particularly due to his connection to Iran, where he spent his final years. Each year, millions of Shia Muslims visit his shrine in Mashhad, which is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites globally, attracting over 20 million pilgrims annually.
On the day of the martyrdom anniversary, a traditional ritual known as "Khutbe Khani" was held at the shrine, attended by religious officials and various groups of people, reflecting the deep reverence and sorrow felt by the Shia community during this important religious occasion.
