Iranians are observing the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Reza (AS), the eighth Shia Imam, on the 30th day of the lunar month of Safar. This significant occasion has seen a large number of pilgrims embark on foot to the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) in Mashhad.

Iran (IMNA) - Imam Reza, also known as Ali ibn Musa al-Rida, was a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and was born in Medina, present-day Saudi Arabia, on Zul-Qa'dah 11 in the year 148 AH.

He was the son of Imam Musa al-Kazem and Hazrat Najma. His era of Imamat began in 183 AH when he was thirty-five, lasting nearly 20 years, during which he lived in Medina for 17 years and spent the last three years in Khorasan, Iran.
