Russian Foreign Minister Announces Imminent Conclusion of Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement with Iran

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, has confirmed that Russia and Iran are on the verge of finalizing a comprehensive partnership agreement in the near future.

Iran (IMNA) - Lavrov was quoted by Russian media Tass stating, "In the very near future we will conclude a new interstate comprehensive partnership agreement between Russia and Iran. And this will be a symbolic step in our relations with the new Iranian leadership."

Expressing confidence in the commitment of the new Iranian leadership to maintaining strong ties with Moscow, Lavrov emphasized that the recent statements from Iran's president and foreign minister reflect a genuine desire for continued cooperation.

Highlighting the positive trajectory of trade turnover and investments between the two countries, Lavrov remarked, "I believe that the figures characterizing the growth of trade turnover and the volume of investments speak for themselves. These figures are constantly increasing, so we have a bright future."

Iran's Ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, had previously acknowledged the significant efforts put forth over the past two and a half years to finalize the cooperation agreement through numerous high-level visits between Iranian and Russian officials. Jalali indicated that the agreement is now pending completion of protocol issues before the foreign ministers can proceed with signing it.

Jalali noted that the agreement's formal signing by the presidents of Iran and Russia in Kazan during the upcoming BRICS summit hinges on the successful conclusion of the remaining protocol processes.
