Iran (IMNA) - Kan'ani told reporters at his weekly press conference that the goal of all parties, including the US, is to see a responsible return to the JCPOA. He expressed hope that the new government will work to realize the rights of the Iranian people, in line with the agreement signed in 2015.
The JCPOA was originally signed in 2015 between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany. The deal was pulled out of by former US President Donald Trump in 2018, but current US President Joe Biden has signaled his willingness to resurrect the agreement.
Talks to reinstate the JCPOA have been ongoing since April 2021, with Russia, the UK, Germany, China, and France participating in negotiations with Iran. The talks have been stalled since August due to Washington's insistence on not removing all sanctions imposed by the previous US administration. Iran has emphasized the need for guarantees that any agreement will be honored by the other side.
Despite the setbacks, all parties remain committed to finding a solution that satisfies everyone's concerns. The international community continues to watch with interest as negotiations continue to move forward.
