Iran Demands Ceasefire in Gaza, Punishment for Israel's Aggression

In a statement issued at the United Nations headquarters in New York, Iran's Permanent Mission announced that its top priorities are to establish a durable ceasefire in Gaza and punish Israel for its recent aggression against Iran.

Iran (IMNA) - The statement came in response to a question about whether Iran would reconsider its plan to take revenge on Israel for its recent attack on the country's sovereignty.

According to the statement, Iran's dual priorities are to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the withdrawal of Israeli occupiers from the territory, as well as to punish Israel for assassinating Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. The statement also emphasized that Iran will take vengeance for Haniyeh's assassination at the proper time and place.

Iranian political and military officials have repeatedly vowed to avenge Haniyeh's blood, with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei calling it a duty to take vengeance for the assassination of the Hamas leader on Iranian soil. New Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also stated that Iran will not fail to protect its territorial integrity, national sovereignty, honor, and prestige.

The statement comes after Hamas appointed Yahya al-Sinwar as its new political leader, who Israel believes was involved in the October 7 operation Al-Aqsa Storm. Top Hamas officials and other Palestinian Resistance groups have praised Sinwar, who has been leading the Hamas movement in Gaza since his release from Israeli prison after being held for 22 years.
