Iran (IMNA) - He made the statement in separate letters sent to the UN Secretary General, UN Security Council President, and OIC Secretary General on Wednesday, condemning the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh as a "terrorist and aggressive act" carried out by the "Zionist regime".
The letters also called for a special meeting of the UN Security Council and an emergency meeting of OIC Foreign Ministers. Iran strongly condemned the Israeli action, calling it a clear violation of international law and the UN Charter, and a serious threat to regional and international peace and security.
Bagheri Kani emphasized that Iran will take any necessary measures to defend its national security and sovereignty against aggressors, according to the letters.
Iran's Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani has called on the members of the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to unite in taking action against Israel's "continued aggression, crimes and genocide" against the people of Palestine and Gaza.
The appeal comes as news emerges that Ismail Haniyeh, the political bureau chief of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, and one of his bodyguards were killed in their residence in Tehran early on Wednesday.
