Iran (IMNA) - Haniyeh, the head of Hamas's political bureau, was martyred in a targeted assassination in Tehran, according to Iranian officials. The attack has been widely condemned by regional and international leaders, with Hezbollah calling it a "heinous crime" that will only increase the determination of resistance fighters.
In a statement, Hezbollah praised Haniyeh as one of the greatest resistance leaders of all time, who bravely stood up to US hegemony and Israeli occupation plans. The group vowed to continue the path of struggle and confront the Zionist enemy with even greater determination.
The Yemeni Ansarullah resistance movement also condemned the assassination, calling it a "terrorist crime" and a violation of international law. Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov described it as an "absolutely unacceptable political murder" that will lead to further escalation of tensions.
Turkey's Foreign Ministry also condemned the attack, describing it as a "heinous" assassination that aims to expand the conflict beyond Gaza to a regional scale. The Fatah military branch in Gaza also condemned the killing, emphasizing that Haniyeh followed the path of fallen resistance fighters in defending the Palestinian cause.
Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed in an attack on his residence in Tehran. The IRGC offered condolences to the Palestinian nation, the Muslim Ummah, and fighters of the resistance front over Haniyeh's martyrdom.
Haniyeh was in Tehran attending the swearing-in ceremony of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at the time of his assassination.
