Iran's Supreme Leader praised the country's democracy, saying it was the result of people's uprising against a chaotic past. Speaking at an event, Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized that Iran's democracy was not achieved easily, but was instead the outcome of a long struggle. He highlighted the importance of people's involvement and influence in managing the country, citing the example of Imam Khomeini, who established this principle from the beginning of the Islamic Revolution. Khamenei also expressed satisfaction with the recent presidential election, congratulating the people on electing a competent president. He urged the future government and officials to work tirelessly and selflessly, likening their efforts to a jihad (endeavor for the sake of God).

Masoud Pezeshkian, a 69-year-old former heart surgeon, is set to take the oath of office in parliament on Tuesday after winning the Iranian presidential election. Pezeshkian secured more than 16 million votes, surpassing his opponent Saeed Jalili's 13 million votes cast by over 30 million eligible voters. The voter turnout stood at nearly 50 percent. In his victory speech, Pezeshkian hailed his triumph as the start of "a new chapter" for Iran. The election was called after President Ebrahim Raeisi's sudden death in a helicopter crash in May.
