China to Play Mediator Role in Palestine, Unites 14 Factions Through Three-Step Initiative

China has reaffirmed its commitment to playing a mediator role in the Palestinian issue, announcing a three-step approach to unite the 14 Palestinian factions through reconciliation and unity.

Iran (IMNA) - According to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the three-step approach involves promoting a comprehensive and sustainable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, upholding the principle of "the Palestinians governing Palestine," and promoting Palestine's full membership in the United Nations and implementing the two-state solution.

The initiative was announced following a reconciliation dialogue between high-level representatives of 14 Palestinian factions in Beijing from July 21-23, which resulted in a declaration on ending division and strengthening unity. The factions signed a "national unity" agreement aimed at maintaining Palestinian control over Gaza once the Israeli war on the enclave concludes.

Wang emphasized that ceasefire and humanitarian relief are top priorities, while "the Palestinians governing Palestine" is the basic principle of post-war reconstruction in Gaza. He also underlined that the two-state solution is the fundamental way out for the future.

The Arab League welcomed the Beijing Declaration on Ending Division and Strengthening Palestinian National Unity, with senior Hamas official Mousa Abu Marzouk describing the agreement as a "path to completing this journey is national unity." Mustafa Barghouti, secretary-general of the Palestinian National Initiative, said the agreement goes "much further" than any other reached in recent years.

China's initiative comes as tensions between Israel and Palestine remain high, with over 39,000 Palestinians killed and nearly all of Gaza's population uprooted in nine months.
