Germany's shutdown of Islamic center deemed a violation of fundamental human rights

An Iran-based non-governmental organization has condemned Germany's closure of the Islamic Center Hamburg (IZH) as a breach of international treaties, human rights, and freedom of religion, expression, and assembly.

The Ahl Al-Bayt World Assembly, in a statement issued on Friday, urged German authorities to reverse the ban on the center, citing the country's violation of fundamental human rights. The center, also known as the Blue Mosque or Imam Ali Mosque, had been shut down by the German Interior Ministry for allegedly promoting "Islamist-extremist, totalitarian ideology".

The NGO argued that the center had acted competently in promoting religious and Islamic teachings, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence for over 60 years and had been a barrier against extremism, religious Takfirism, and conflicts.

The organization expressed grave concern and protested against the violation of religious, social, and legal rights of Muslims in Germany and warned that shutting down the center could have a negative impact on social cohesion and coexistence among followers of religions in Germany.

The Ahl Al-Bayt World Assembly also urged German authorities to take urgent action to protect the rights of Muslims and prevent the repetition of such illegal moves, warning that they could lead to violence and Islamophobia in Europe and worldwide.

The organization expects international authorities, including the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, to act decisively to protect human rights globally, including in Germany.
