Iran (IMNA) - The country's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kan'ani, made the statement on Wednesday after US media reported that American authorities had obtained intelligence from a human source about a plot to target Trump.
Despite the rejection of the assassination plot allegations, Iran reiterated its commitment to pursuing legal channels to hold Trump accountable for his role in the martyrdom of Qassem Soleimani, the top anti-terror commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), in a US drone strike in January 2020. Soleimani was highly respected across the region for his efforts in fighting against Daesh in Iraq and Syria.
Iran's permanent mission to the United Nations also weighed in, calling the US claim "unfounded and malicious" and stating that Trump is a "criminal" who should be tried and punished in court for ordering Soleimani's assassination. The mission emphasized that Iran has chosen the legal pathway to hold Trump accountable for his actions.
