Iran (IMNA) - In a statement issued on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kan'ani described the allegations as "totally baseless and politically-motivated", claiming that NATO's aim is to legitimize Western interference and military aid to Ukraine.
Kan'ani accused NATO of engaging in provocative policies and measures led by the United States, which he said are the root cause of the ongoing developments in Ukraine. He emphasized Iran's commitment to promoting durable security in the region and globally, and reiterated its call for settling the crisis in Ukraine through political channels.
Iran has consistently denied supplying weapons to Russia for use in the war in Ukraine, and has also rejected accusations of providing weapons to anti-Israeli and anti-US groups in the region. Russia has warned that a flow of Western weapons to Ukraine will only prolong the conflict.
The NATO declaration, issued on Wednesday, accused North Korea and Iran of fuelling Russia's military operation against Ukraine by providing direct military support, including munitions and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The alliance warned that any transfer of ballistic missiles and related technology by Iran to Russia would represent a substantial escalation.
The US State Department reported earlier this month that it has provided approximately $51.4 billion in military assistance to Ukraine since the start of the conflict.
