Iran (IMNA) - The move, announced by Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc, lists the IRGC as a terrorist entity under the Criminal Code, a decision that has been met with fierce opposition from Iran.
Kan'ani emphasized that the IRGC has a legal identity derived from the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran and plays a crucial role in guarding national security, borders, and contributing to regional stability and anti-terrorism efforts. He noted that the Canadian government's action has no effect on the IRGC's legitimacy and authority, and that Iran reserves the right to respond proportionally and reciprocally to this action against international law and the nation and government of Iran.
This development comes after the Canadian House of Commons adopted a non-binding resolution last month calling on the government to blacklist the IRGC and expel an estimated 700 Iranians. Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kan'ani had previously described the motion as "unwise."
