Iran (IMNA) - Earlier in the day, Ayatollah Khamenei had held Raeisi's grandchildren in his arms during the funeral ceremony at Tehran University campus.
On Wednesday morning, Ayatollah Khamenei led the funeral prayers for President Raeisi and his entourage, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, in Tehran. Dignitaries from 68 countries, according to Iranian TV, attended the funeral ceremony in Tehran to pay tribute to the late president and his companions.
President Raeisi, Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian, two top officials of the Iranian province of East Azerbaijan, and four other people on board the helicopter were returning from a dam inauguration ceremony on Iran's border with the Republic of Azerbaijan when the aircraft crashed into forests in the Varzaqan region.
