Death Toll Rises to 7 in Mashhad Floods Following Heavy Rainfall

Tragic consequences unfolded in Mashhad, northeast Iran, as heavy rainfall led to the death of seven individuals and left 10 others missing.

Iran (IMNA) - Hamidreza Kafiniya, the head of the Mashhad Municipality Fire Department, confirmed the grim news, stating, "The death toll from the Mashhad floods has risen to seven." Among the casualties were a mother and four children who tragically perished when their home in the Seyyedi district succumbed to severe flooding. Additionally, two individuals lost their lives after being trapped in a submerged vehicle at Enghelab (Revolution) Square.

Muhsin Zakiriyan, head of the Razavi Khorasan Red Crescent, reported that 12 individuals remained unaccounted for as search and rescue operations persisted through the night.

The city of Mashhad experienced a deluge, with a staggering 38 millimeters of rainfall recorded within a single hour on Wednesday, exacerbating the flooding and contributing to the devastating impact on the region.
