Terror Attacks on Military Headquarters in Southern Iran Result in Deaths of Security Forces, Assailants

At least three security forces and eight assailants were killed during terror attacks targeting several military headquarters in Sistan and Baluchestan province, southern Iran.

Iran (IMNA) - The IRNA news agency reported that the attacks occurred on Wednesday evening against headquarters in Rask and Chabahar Counties.

Alireza Marhamati, the provincial governor's deputy for security and law enforcement, stated that the attacks happened around 22:00 local time (18:30 GMT). The assailants were confronted by the military and law enforcement forces, resulting in several attackers being killed or injured. Marhamati assured that the security situation is now under control.

Jaish ul-Adl, a terrorist group formed in 2012 and responsible for previous attacks on Iranian soil, has claimed responsibility for the assault. Majid Mir-Ahmadi, Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi's deputy for security affairs, said the terrorists attempted to "occupy" the two headquarters. As of now, at least eight terrorists have been killed, and six more are expected to be captured soon, either dead or alive.

The terrorists were either killed or surrounded by security forces, with one Chabahar citizen taken hostage. Mir-Ahmadi declared that the attacks were a "100-percent failure," as the elements supporting the terrorists fled the scene due to the presence of security forces.

Tasnim News Agency reported that the group's primary target in Rask was the headquarters of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC). Assailants began firing towards the IRGC's headquarters from the county's main hospital, but their attempt to enter the premises by detonating explosives was thwarted by heavy fire from the Corps' forces.

In Chabahar, the terrorists simultaneously attacked the IRGC's headquarters and the port Admiralty.
