"Global Outcry Over Israel's Attack on Iran's Consulate in Syria: UNSC Holds Emergency Meeting"

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has convened an urgent session following Israel's deadly assault on Iran's consulate in Syria. The meeting was prompted by Russia's request, as concerns grow over the potential for broader conflict in an already volatile region.

Iran (IMNA) - Israeli forces targeted the Iranian Embassy's Consular Section in Damascus, resulting in the tragic loss of seven military advisors from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Among the fallen were Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, both commanders of the IRGC's Quds Force.

Khaled Khiari, the UN's Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, emphasized the importance of respecting the inviolability of diplomatic premises and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of member states. He warned that any miscalculation could lead to a wider conflict, with devastating consequences for civilians already suffering in Syria, Lebanon, the Occupied Palestinian Territory, and the broader Middle East.

Russia's Ambassador to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, condemned Israel's ongoing attacks on Syrian territory, stating that such actions are designed to fuel conflict and could have dangerous consequences for the region. China's representative also denounced the airstrikes, describing them as a breach of both Syria and Iran's sovereignty.

Iran's Ambassador to the UN, Zahra Ershadi, strongly denounced the Israeli regime's targeting of Iranian diplomatic premises in Syria, calling it a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic.

Algeria, Switzerland, South Korea, and Japan have also expressed concern over the attack and urged restraint and diplomatic resolution. However, the US, UK, and France have stopped short of condemning the Israeli assault, with the US suggesting Iran and its proxy groups should avoid escalating tensions in the region.

As global condemnation surges, the UNSC must now determine how to prevent further escalation and uphold the principles of international peace and security.
