Iran's Foreign Minister Asks UN to Condemn Deadly Israeli Attack on Iran's Consulate in Syria

Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has urged the United Nations Security Council to take strong action against the recent deadly Israeli attack on Iran's consulate in Damascus, Syria.

Iran (IMNA) - He emphasized the responsibility of the UN and its Security Council in maintaining global peace and security. Amidst this, the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, reaffirmed the importance of respecting the inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises and personnel, as per international law. However, he also called for restraint and avoiding further escalation of the situation.

Israeli warplanes targeted the Iranian consulate, located near the embassy building in Damascus's Mezzeh district. This attack led to the martyrdom of several Iranian military advisors and Syrian citizens. The Iranian government has expressed its determination to respond decisively to Israeli aggression and has warned of potential broader conflicts in an already volatile region.

The UN has been informed of the situation and is concerned about the possible escalation of tensions. An emergency meeting of the Security Council has been requested by Russia to discuss the Israeli strike. Both Iran's President Ebrahim Raeisi and the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, have vowed to punish Israel for their actions.
