Iran Denies Accusations of Arms Shipments to Yemen, Criticizes US and UK Actions

Iran's permanent ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has rejected allegations made by the United States and Britain regarding arms shipments to Yemen, labeling them as "unfounded" and merely serving to justify the two countries' bombing campaign against Yemen.

Iran (IMNA) - In a letter addressed to the president of the UN Security Council (UNSC) on Monday, Iravani dismissed the accusations put forth by US and UK envoys during a UNSC briefing on Yemen last week. He criticized the representatives for exploiting the Security Council platform to level baseless accusations against Iran concerning the situation in the Red Sea and Yemen.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran categorically rejects these baseless allegations, considering them as a pretext utilized by the United States and the United Kingdom to advance their short-sighted political agenda as well as to justify and validate their ongoing unlawful actions and military aggression against Yemen," Iravani stated.

During the UNSC meeting, both the US and UK representatives accused Iran of supplying arms to Yemen, with similar claims echoed by the French delegate.

Iravani also dismissed France's allegations against Iran as "unjustified and unsubstantiated," urging Paris to act more responsibly and refrain from making political accusations against sovereign nations without proper evidence.

Furthermore, the Iranian envoy condemned the US-led strikes on Yemen, prompted by the country's naval operations in support of Palestine.

"Iran unequivocally condemns the ongoing military aggression and unlawful use of force against Yemen by the so-called US-led coalition," Iravani asserted, emphasizing that such actions flagrantly violate Yemen's sovereignty, international law, the UN Charter, and relevant Security Council resolutions.

Iravani emphasized that Iran is not involved in any activity contrary to UN resolutions on the Yemen arms embargo. He reiterated Iran's commitment to resolving the Yemen crisis peacefully through diplomatic means while underscoring its dedication to maritime security and freedom of navigation.

The envoy highlighted Yemen's actions targeting ships heading to or from ports in occupied Palestinian territories or linked to Israel in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza facing US-backed Israeli aggression. In response, the US and its allies have conducted airstrikes on Yemen, prompting Yemen to declare American and British vessels legitimate targets for its armed forces.
