"Iran and Azerbaijan Aim to Turn a New Page in Neighborly Relations, Says Iran's Ambassador"

Iran's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Abbas Mousavi, has reportedly emphasized the need for both Tehran and Baku to open a new chapter in their relations, following efforts to resolve misunderstandings.

Iran (IMNA) - Mousavi made these remarks after meeting with Hikmet Hajiyev, the assistant to the Azerbaijani President in Tehran. They discussed recent developments in the South Caucasus region and bilateral relations between Iran and Azerbaijan. Mousavi also mentioned that large economic projects are being planned to strengthen the economic ties between the two neighbors.

The relations between Iran and Azerbaijan had been strained since an attack on Iran's embassy in Baku last year, which led to the closure of the embassy and evacuation of staff. However, an Azerbaijani delegation recently traveled to Tehran to prepare for the reopening of the embassy and resolve the diplomatic tensions.

The attack was classified as a "terrorist" occurrence by Azerbaijan, despite the fact that an investigation revealed the attacker's motivation to be "personal and family-related problems."
