Iran Condemns UNSC Inaction Amidst Israel's War on Gaza Strip

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has strongly denounced the United Nations Security Council's (UNSC) inaction in the face of Israel's ongoing war against the Gaza Strip.

Iran (IMNA) - Speaking at a meeting on the sidelines of the 55th session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, Amir-Abdollahian characterized the UNSC's failure to address the genocide as "the diplomatic catastrophe of the century."

Emphasizing the historical significance of this moment, the Iranian diplomat underlined that each country's and international organization's response to the genocide will be recorded in history.

The Israeli regime launched its war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, following "al-Aqsa Storm," a surprise operation conducted by Gaza's resistance movements against the occupied territories.

Amir-Abdollahian highlighted the role of the United States as Israel's main benefactor, noting that Washington has consistently vetoed UNSC resolutions calling for an immediate ceasefire.

Approximately 30,000 people have perished as a result of the Israeli aggression, with women and children constituting around 70 percent of those casualties. Amir-Abdollahian emphasized the appalling rate of infanticide during the conflict.

Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian strongly condemned Israel's ongoing military offensive in the Gaza Strip, describing it as a "genocide" and warning of dire consequences in the southern city of Raqqa.

In his address to the United Nations General Assembly, Amirabdollahian highlighted the severe impact of the Israeli attacks on Palestinian civilians, emphasizing that apart from immediate casualties, many are also suffering a "slow death" due to the regime's simultaneous siege of the coastal enclave.

The foreign minister pointed to the "direct and intentional" attacks on healthcare facilities, depriving Gazans of essential medical equipment and drugs needed by thousands of injured residents. He added that unsanitary conditions have led to a growing threat of infectious diseases.

Amirabdollahian also expressed concern about the potential ground invasion of Raqqa, home to over half of Gaza's 2.4 million population who have fled the violence. He urged the international community to sever economic and commercial ties with Israel, considering it an "unforgiveable wrong" to arm the regime amid its aggression.

The Iranian foreign minister further stated that Israel's goal of "total elimination" of the Palestinian resistance movement, specifically the Gaza -based group Hama, is unattainable. He described Hama and the resistance as the embodiment of Palestinian's aspirations for liberation and the establishment of a fully Palestinian state.

Amirabdollahian emphasized that no nation throughout history has given up its land, emphasizing the resilience of the Palestinian people. He stressed that the only way forward for Palestine is through intra- Palestinian dialogue, denouncing alternative and imposed solutions that are "doomed to fail. "
