Iran Supports UN Efforts to End Israel's War on Gaza, Says Israeli Regime Continues to Perpetrate Crimes Against Palestinians

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has pledged Iran's support for the efforts of the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to bring an end to Israel's military campaign against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Iran (IMNA) - Speaking during a meeting with Guterres in Geneva on Monday, Amir-Abdollahian emphasized Iran's commitment to promoting sustainable security in the region and expressed the country's willingness to collaborate with the UN in this regard.

The Foreign Minister pointed to recent meetings he held with Palestinian resistance leaders in Lebanon and Qatar, highlighting the strong military capabilities of the Palestinian resistance movement in confronting Israeli aggression. He also condemned Israel's ongoing crimes against the Palestinian people and the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza, particularly in the northern part of the strip.

Amir-Abdollahian stressed the Palestinian resistance groups' support for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza but expressed concern that Israel, backed by the United States, continues to pursue the war. He highlighted the grave humanitarian crisis in Gaza, stating that Israel has killed thousands of Palestinians and is now seeking to starve the remaining population.

The Foreign Minister praised the efforts of the United Nations and its chief in providing humanitarian assistance to Palestinians but emphasized the inadequacy of the current aid in addressing the disastrous situation in Gaza. He also expressed concerns about the United States' role in intensifying the crisis in the Red Sea and Yemen, warning that US military strikes against Yemen could undermine joint Iran-UN efforts to resolve the Yemeni crisis.

He underscored the utmost significance of preventing exacerbating the dire situation through intensifying efforts to de-escalate tensions and restore regional stability.

Guterres acknowledged the challenges and obstacles in controlling the escalating crisis but underscored the unwavering commitment of the United Nations to continue its efforts to mitigate the humanitarian suffering and develop a lasting solution.

On a more positive note, the UN Secretary-General attributed the diplomatic efforts of Iran, specifically Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, in pursuing political channels to resolve the conflict in Palestine and reduce regional tensions.
