Iran (IMNA) - The decision was made in response to a request by Iran's Judiciary chief, Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei, to suspend or reduce the sentences of 2,827 eligible inmates.
These individuals had been convicted in various courts, including the public and Islamic Revolution courts, the Judicial Organization of the Armed Forces, and the State Discretionary Punishment Organization. This move reflects Ayatollah Khamenei's commitment to justice and compassion, particularly during this auspicious time of Sha'ban celebrations.
Iran's Leader Commutes Death Sentences for 53 Prisoners on Religious Occasion
In a customary act during religious celebrations, Iran's Leader exercised the authority granted by Article 110 of the country's Constitution to pardon or reduce the sentences of prisoners. Among those who received clemency were 53 individuals who had initially faced the death penalty. Their sentences were commuted to prison terms. However, it is important to note that this clemency does not extend to prisoners involved in armed struggle against the nation, armed or organized drug trafficking, rape, armed robbery, arms smuggling, abduction, bribery, and embezzlement.
