The meeting marked the anniversary of a historic event preceding Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution, where Homafaran, officers of Pahlavi's air force, broke away from the US-backed monarchy and pledged allegiance to Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic.
