Iranian Ambassador Denies US Accusations of Involvement in Anti-American Operations

Iran's permanent ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, responded to allegations made by the United States regarding Iran's alleged involvement in anti-American operations in the West Asia region.

Iran (IMNA) - In a letter addressed to the president of the UN Security Council on Monday, Iravani categorically rejected the accusations. The Iranian ambassador's response comes three days after Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the American counterpart, wrote a letter to the Council claiming that "militia groups affiliated with the Islamic Republic of Iran's Armed Forces" were responsible for actions against US personnel and facilities in Iraq and Syria. Iravani emphasized that there are no such groups affiliated with Iran's Armed Forces, whether in Iraq, Syria, or elsewhere, that operate under the control of Iran or act on its behalf.

Iraq's Resistance Groups Intensify Strikes on US Military Bases Amidst Israeli-Backed Gaza War

In recent years, Iraq's resistance groups have carried out a series of strikes targeting military bases that house American occupation forces in both Iraq and neighboring Syria. However, since October 7, 2023, when the Israeli regime launched a genocidal war against the Gaza Strip with the support of the United States, these strikes have notably intensified.

The ongoing Israeli onslaught on Gaza has resulted in a devastating loss of life, with more than 26,600 civilians, predominantly women and children, tragically losing their lives. Additionally, over 65,300 individuals have been injured as a result of the conflict. In response to these events, Iraq's resistance groups have escalated their attacks on US military bases, demonstrating their opposition to Washington's alliance with the Israeli regime.

US Deploys Forces and Military Equipment to Syria and Iraq Without UN Mandate, Claiming Fight Against Terrorist Groups

In a controversial move, the United States has been sending its forces and military equipment to Syria and Iraq without a United Nations mandate. Under the pretext of combating terrorist organizations such as Daesh, the US has justified its actions. The decision comes at a time when Washington's regional involvement is being questioned, with critics arguing that the US is running out of excuses to extend its meddling or expand its influence. Despite strong protests from both the citizens and top officials of these countries, American forces have maintained their presence, prompting persistent calls for the withdrawal of troops.

Iran's Ambassador Condemns US Presence in Syria and Iraq as Illegal

In a recent statement, Iran's ambassador strongly criticized the United States' presence in Syria and Iraq, describing it as illegal and in violation of international law and the UN Charter. The ambassador pointed out that the US notification submitted to the Security Council lacks a legal foundation and fails to legitimize their actions in the region. This statement from Ambassador Iravani came after Iran's permanent mission to the UN reaffirmed that the country has no involvement in attacks on US forces. The reaffirmation followed a drone attack on a US base near the Jordan-Syria border, which tragically resulted in the deaths of three American servicemen.
