Iran (IMNA) - Ali Ghasemzadeh addressed the current challenges faced by Isfahan during a radio program called Salam Isfahan. He highlighted that the city is currently grappling with adverse weather conditions and is experiencing yellow and red codes of pollution.
The mayor further emphasized that while Isfahan Municipality plays a crucial role in managing and mitigating these issues, it cannot single-handedly solve all the problems. The municipality acknowledges that it is responsible for addressing only a portion of the challenges, with other stakeholders also sharing the responsibility.
According to Qasemzadeh, the sources of pollution can be categorized into fixed and mobile. Fixed sources primarily consist of industries located outside Isfahan city, which are managed by other provincial departments, including the environmental department. On the other hand, the municipality is responsible for managing mobile sources such as buses, taxis, and the subway. If any of these transportation means contribute to pollution, appropriate actions will be taken.
The mayor of Isfahan highlighted the technical measures implemented for city buses. Upgrading the fuel used in buses is one of the initiatives undertaken. Currently, all buses in Isfahan operate on Euro 4 fuel, and a chemical additive is utilized to reduce exhaust emissions.
In a recent statement, Ghasemzadeh emphasized the commitment to ensuring the quality of public transportation in Isfahan. He revealed that the air filters of the buses undergo regular replacement, ensuring clean and fresh air for passengers. Additionally, the technical examination of these buses is conducted every three months to maintain their optimal performance and safety standards.
Highlighting the municipality's dedication to modernizing the bus fleet, the mayor proudly announced that over the past two years, they have acquired 400 brand-new buses, which have been seamlessly integrated into Isfahan's public transportation system. Furthermore, in an effort to promote sustainability and reduce environmental impact, the municipality has also made a significant investment in procuring 100 electric buses. Ghasemzadeh expressed optimism that these eco-friendly vehicles will be delivered as scheduled, further enhancing the city's transportation infrastructure.
The mayor of Isfahan echoed the municipality's commitment to preserving the city's green space and trees, despite facing water shortage conditions. He emphasized that despite the challenges, the municipality remains steadfast in its efforts to safeguard the city's 5000 hectares of green space. This dedication aims to ensure that the lush greenery that characterizes Isfahan is preserved for future generations to enjoy.
These initiatives demonstrate the municipality's proactive approach towards enhancing public transportation services, promoting sustainability, and preserving the natural beauty of Isfahan.
