Iranian, Russian Diplomats Discuss BRICS, Future Activities in Tehran Talks

Senior diplomats from Iran and Russia recently met in Tehran to discuss the activities and future plans of the BRICS group. The meeting, held at the Iranian foreign ministry compound, was hosted by Mahdi Safari, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy. Sergey Ryabkov, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the country's special envoy for BRICS affairs, represented Russia in the talks.

Iran (IMNA) - During the meeting, Ryabkov congratulated Iran on its membership in the BRICS group and highlighted Russia's upcoming presidency, which will begin in January 2024. He outlined Russia's priorities for the group during their presidency and provided a comprehensive briefing on the history and background of BRICS actions.

Mahdi Safari, on behalf of Iran, expressed the country's commitment to actively participate in the BRICS group. He emphasized the broad and diverse nature of BRICS activities and stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran will make every effort to play an effective and constructive role within the group.

The discussions covered a wide range of topics, including economic, financial, trade, energy, transportation, parliamentary, agriculture, new technologies, scientific research, health, information technology, environment, air-space, sports, cultural, youth, and future development within the BRICS framework.

The talks concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation and collaboration within the BRICS group, aiming to foster mutual development and prosperity.
