Iran Expresses Readiness to Collaborate with UN in Combating Drug Trade in Afghanistan

In a meeting held in Tehran on Sunday, Eskandar Momeni, Secretary General of Drug Control Headquarters, declared Iran's commitment to join forces with the United Nations in addressing the issue of illegal drugs in Afghanistan.

Iran (IMNA) - Momeni emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran stands prepared to cooperate with the UN by implementing alternative cultivation plans, promoting sustainable development, and reducing opium production in Afghanistan.

Furthermore, Momeni highlighted Iran's proactive cooperation with various UN offices and the execution of collaborative strategies in the fight against narcotics. Markus Potzel, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Afghanistan, expressed appreciation for Iran's efforts in combating the drug trade within the region. Potzel sought Iran's assistance in supporting the UN and its mission to achieve a sustainable and effective solution to the problem at hand.
