Iran (IMNA) - Amir-Abdollahian strongly criticized Israel's genocidal aggression towards Gaza, highlighting two recent incidents. The first was an attack on a hospital in the blockaded territory, resulting in the death of nearly 500 individuals. The second incident involved an attack on a church, where a significant number of displaced people seeking shelter were killed.
The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of al-Quds condemned these acts, stating that targeting churches and their institutions, which provide refuge to innocent citizens, particularly children and women who have lost their homes due to Israeli airstrikes, amounts to a war crime that should not go unnoticed.
In a phone call, Iranian Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian stated that the actions taken by Palestinian resistance groups are in response to the Israeli occupation and in accordance with international law. He criticized the Zionist regime for its continued blockade of Gaza, which hinders the delivery of essential supplies such as water, food, medicines, and fuel, despite efforts made by the United Nations. Luxembourg's foreign minister expressed hope for a swift resolution to the tensions in the region through a political solution, acknowledging Iran's potential role in restoring peace. Earlier, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman condemned the Israeli attacks on Gaza, urging the international community to label the occupying regime as a "terrorist entity." Nasser Kan’ani, in a social media post, denounced the Israeli atrocities against Palestinians and their threats to bomb hospitals in Gaza, calling the actions morally shameful and criticizing governments that support the Zionist regime while advocating for human rights.
In a statement, Kan'ani called for international designation of the Israeli regime as a terrorist entity, emphasizing the demands of individuals advocating freedom, justice, and fairness worldwide. Kan'ani further asserted that Zionist leaders should face prosecution and punishment as war criminals.
According to health officials in Gaza, the Israeli bombardments, which began on October 7 in response to a significant attack by fighters from the Hamas resistance movement, have resulted in a tragic death toll. At least 4,385 people have lost their lives, with children, women, and the elderly accounting for approximately 70 percent of the fatalities. The number of injured individuals has surpassed 14,000.
